Dart Block Specs Listed

I see that Dart has released specs on the Aluminum blocks. see www.dartheads.com
Looks like the 351W Aluminum block is 93 lbs for 9.5" deck height compared to 195 lbs for the cast iron version. I have not heard of price or availability. I would guess it is on the order of $1500 more then the cast iron. That would mean that an all aluminum 351 could be made for ~365 lbs. Wow!

Something is not right with that weight. The Ford weights for aluminum blocks are 92 lbs for the 302 8.2" deck block and 122 lbs for the 351 9.5" deck block. I don't see a 30 lb. difference in aluminum.

I think that's a misprint.

The Ford 302 block has a 380 CID capacity and the 351 block has a 454 CID capacity.

More than enough. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That is interesting. There 350 Chevy block is listed at 95 lbs but they do not specify which deck height (9 - 9.5 in). If it were for the 9.5 at least it would be consistent. I think a nice 302 based combo would be 4.165" bore and ~3.25" stroke = 354 CI.

Maybe the Ford blocks are beefier. I have the 351 AL block. All mains are steel, 4 bolt. The block looks very strong. Goes to the dyno on Monday.

Not sure the Dart are reported to be good to 2000 HP and use 4 bolt mains (1/2" studs on the inside and 7/16 angled) on all 5 caps which is unusual. Did anyone actually weigh the Ford AL block?

I didn't actually weigh mine. But by lifting, seemed Ford had the weight right. I wouldn't think Ford would add 30 lbs. of advertised weight on a block being sold for its lightness.

Here are a couple of pictures of my bare block.
