Am I reading this right? Charging someone for a position on a waiting list?

I'm sure someone will probably anti-up for this, but I just think it's wrong. I almost equate this to domain name squatting.

But what do I know? I think rain is wet.

For what it's worth, I feel this type of commercialism isn't in the spirit of this board and shouldn't be allowed.

Sorry but I would rather wait 3 years.
I do also feel such an /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif announcement is not appropriate on this site

As some wise man once Said, " You Pays your Money and Makes you choices". I know the grammer isn't proper, but that's way I heard it.

You should sell your build slot on eBay. This has been done before
successfully with Porsche Carrera GT's, Enzo's, etc.
I don't think folks here will be too interested, as the
spirit of the Forum isn't commercial(in theory anyway).
Besides, any premium, on top of ERA's already lofty price,
would make it tough for most member's or ERA fans to swallow!

I think the spaces won't be as easy to sell as they were is say 1999 or 2000. There are now other good GT40 makes readily available in kit and turnkey minus form. As for appropriate for the forum or not, well, it is for sale and this is the correct place. I don't really see it as any different than a cylinder head or car - it is GT40 related and someone needs to sell it.

IMHO anyone who pays up for ANYTHING today is making a big mistake. There is a glut of desirable cars many selling way below where they were during the bubble. It's totally a buyers market.

J6,

You certainly got that right! Way too many manufacturers chasing far too few willing & able customers (and I say that more for Cobras than GT40s, but it applies to both).

I have no problem with selling spots in line...
why is that any different than buying commodities futures?
Someone put down a deposit and is looking for a return on that "investment" which like all investments carries risk.
The Market will ultimately determine it's value...
whether you think it's morally right or not.

Jim my friend....there are sections of the collector car market with values that continue to rise and show NO
signs of stopping....particularly American muscle cars.
See what a Hemicuda or L-88 Vette will cost you today vs the "bubble" of 1988-1990. How I wish I'd kept mine!

There will always be segments that move up even in a down market but IMHO it will be a while before we see a Ferrari 250 GTO trade for 18 Million or a GT40 trade for 10.
I wouldn't pay up for any car today.

Maybe we're jumpling on this guy too quick. Maybe his time has come and he does not have enough money to complete the deal. Maybe he just wants his deposit back. Maybe I should get back to work before I get fired.

I can't remember how much ERA deposits were for 40s, I think around $5,000. He might just want out what he has in.
