gt40 no. 9

What car is number 9 like chassis number. I have a book on classic cars and it shows a gt40 in gulf colors with no. 9 on it. Can you tell me more about it? BTW, I also saw a dark blue MKIII which was cool. This also should apply for that blue mk3 I saw in that book. I would appreciate any response from you.

Any good history such as David Hodges Ford GT 40 will answer your questions. Amazon carries it. I believe # 9 is the double LeMans winner 1075 and the blue MKIII is the one now owned by the Peterson Museaum.

According to Spain's book, the following raced under Number 9 in Gulf colors:
1074 (Daytona, 1968, dnf)
1075 (LeMans, 1968, 1st)

1075 wore #6 at Le Mans in 1969, and that's the number it has today...

So yeah, most likely 1075.

It had a different 9. It had the no.9 on the the single vent also. It also had a gurney bubble on it also.

Hi Mike

Marco's right. The #9 car in your photo will be a fairly recent image of Martin Colvill's car - #1084 (rebuilt from #1004 which posted a dnf at Le Mans in 1965). You will probably see 'M. Colvill' on the driver's door. Martin's raced with various numbers over the past few years.

The blue car in your book I'm guessing as UK registration number SBB 604D, John Wyer's old car, previously on display at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu. It's been on sale at Stauffer Classics for a little while now, and, just today, they've put the price up, from $375,000 to $450,000!! Check out www.staufferclassics.com

Cheers!

Rob
