The original GT 40 sometimes had a "sequential shifter." However, the clutch was still manual, as far as I can tell. More like a motorcycle than a modern electronic shifting system.
A friend of mine, who passed away a few years ago, was a mechanic on the GT40 race efforts, from development through to several (all?) Le Mans wins. He told me that it was cable operated, and the feel was great.
