Personal Mobile Radio

I have just borrowed a Personal Mobile Radio (PMR) to communicate with my chase car when I collect my GTD40 next weekend.
It has occurred to me that this would be an ideal means of communicating between cars up to 3km apart (using, of course, one of the hands free speaker kits that come with them). They would be particularly useful when travelling in convoy, or at a venue when you are separated from your buddy.
In particular, the Le Mans Classic group of 30 cars could keep in touch when in the Le Mans area without the cost of overseas mobile-to-mobile rates.
Any PMR446 compatible set can be used. They are available at Maplins or from a multitude of sellers on the Internet (just enter personal mobile radio in Google). Prices start at around £20 and go up to £150 or so if you want built-in FM radios, torches and such.
I am taking mine to Le Mans, anyone else?

Hi Tony -

These work well - we have been using them for a few years now at sprints etc to keep in contact with each other en-route and then with our ever busy camera-man - Tim.

Great idea.
