Coletti? transaxle

The fellow posting this isn't sure, but has been told that this is a Coletti transaxle. If it is, these were the original transaxles fitted to GT40s. The ZF replaced the Coletti as, according to John Weir, the Coletti was a horrid gearbox and many gearbox failures were experienced by the early GT40s.

It's certainly not a Colotti T37. Horrid or not, if it was a T37, I would have been bidding on it for the Lola /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

You are correct Chris, this is a Citroen transaxle as it was used on the first generation Lotus Esprit; Lotus replaced it with the UN1 transaxles from Renault and used them all the way up to the V8, this gives an idea of how poor this transaxle is, not up to the task on a GT40.
