What kind of critter is this?

This guy showed up in my squirrel trap this morning, and I have no idea what he is so took some pics before I let him go. Looks kind of like a giant kangaroo rat or something. Anybody know?

Uh-oh. Any chance this could have been a pack rat ? I've heard from neighbors that they are having problems with pack rats...

It looks more like a chinchilla than a vole IMHO.

Hi Pete
Sure, I love mushrooms and chilli, just not 'chinchilli'.

We used to have Chinchillas as pets - very very furry - more hairs per sq cm than anything else I think and very cute.

They do however destroy everything around them, that is they bite anything and everything to see if it tastes good. Especially electrical cables and fingers! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
