Well folks, I've finally got my GT40 home....and Mighty Fine it is too.
The challenge was for Frank Catt to de-Greek it for me, as it had lead a hard racing life for the last 3 or 4 years in the hands of....well shall we say "non-marque-specialists" and be polite ?
Dave Millen rebuilt the motor with new Edelbrock heads, forged pistons, and all the good stuff.
Chris Cole at Mach One rebuilt the transmission.
Thanks to both of them for excellent and speedy assistance.
But the Star was Frank Catt, who worked tirelessly to get the show on the road in time for Goodwood.
New ali radiator, complete brake system rebuild, rear scoops and deep nostrils fitted, roof / door safeties, the car re-painted, his own design new seats ( this is what I do for a living, and even I was impressed ), pedals. fabricated a new silencer complete to beat the Goodwood noise test, rebuilt suspension, and sourced or sorted a hundred other things such as side stripes from Chris Melia and period rear-views..
Thanks Frank, you're a diamond geezer.
(Cannot reccommend the man highly enough in case you hadn't worked that out)
......and I'll post some pix for you.
Barry D
PS. Thanks also to everyone else who helped...especially Andrew and Robin Batt for shaking the thing down and getting it to and from Goodwood at the last minute, and Martin Weigold for getting the Eagle F1s in from the USA for me.
What a super bunch of people too...everyone in the two clubs was most helpful and enthusiastic. Brilliant.
