Stainless screen project

What started out as an induction air filter project has now

become a complete aperture screening project. Once I

got started, I couldn't stop!

Total cost: $50

1. 2'x3' 1/4" mesh stainless screen-$40
(exact amount to do a GT40, with no room for error)

2. 16' of 1/8" vacuum hose-free(already had it in garage)

3. 1 tube of black weatherstrip adhesive-$5

4. 1 pack of Dremel cut off wheels-$5

5. 3 pieces of stiff aluminum welding rod-free (screen stiffener)

Total cost-$50

I half-split the vacuum hose in a razor blade jig, and used

it as a gasket for the screens. I wired the welding rods to

the radiator screen to stiffen it up. The tow hook holes

will be trimmed with the same rubber hose. The photos show

everything dry fit. Gluing will take place tonight or tomorrow.

Bill, VERY NICE. The ones on the top of the rear bonet are going to be copied ASAP!!! Thanks for sharing the detail. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Freddy F,

No problemo! I found a LARGE grain of sand on my manifold, at which point I made the decision to add induction hole filters and a turkey pan. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The stainless mesh came from Racer Parts Wholesale. Make sure that they check it before shipping, as my first piece looked like it had been immersed in salt water!

I cut my filters from 3 layers of 3/4" thick A/C filter

media(dyed black)that I bought at Carquest.($12 for 2'x3')

Oops! Forgot about the filters. That makes the total $62

#5 shows the tow hook holes trimmed in rubber.

Rick,

Some new Jags have their front mesh set diagonally. It looks entirely different from mine.
I debated on doing my screens that way, but was short of s.s. mesh, so I went vertical/horizontal.
BTW, the diagonal mesh on the Jag looked pretty hot!

Hi Bill, I tried looking at the Racer Parts Wholesales web page for the screen, but am apparently too dense to find it (tried screen, wire screen, wire mesh etc). Can you help a dumb Nor Cal guy find this stuff??

cheers

Hi Dave,

Look under "New Products"......Try stainless mesh...coarse
It's right there on the front page, in black and white.
You California guys are all the same! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif You can't find the forest for the trees! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
