I see in the last picture of P1016 a crease line at the top of the passenger door above the window and below the roof cut-out. I have also seen this before in a close-up picture on John Stone's GT40 CD. Does anyone know if the passenger side is possibly a removable "T-top" door?

Here is a better view of the roof. Looks more like the top panel is fixed and there is a hinge perhaps half way along?

Nice pictures of 1016. the reason for the line across the door where Dave says theres a hinge. Is that the cars still in MkII B configeration . It has the MKIV dashboard, the double holleys (MKIV engine ) and cut outs only on the drivers door for the Lemans Start entry. I know the MKIIB No 5 (1031?) had the same door feature. The same as the MkIV. the only thing not MKIIB is the tail grille.

Allan, thanks for clearing that up for me. Not meaning to quibble, 1016 also retains its Mark IIa nose as compared to the MKIIb type seen here. Neat mix of models!

Goodman,

Great pics!

Mark,

When will you take your GT40 to Lemans? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Have fun!

John

I known the MKIV door is not the same. What I was saying was the MKIIB only had functioning cutouts in the roof on the driver side like the MKIV's. I might be wrong (they might have only been modified). but since the cars were rebodied to save weight there would be no need for a cut out on the passengers side. Since when have there been passengers in the 1967
Lemans 24 hour race? Feel free to quibble I am no expert just quoting what I read and have seen. Thats what this forum is for!!

GT 40 P/???? in paddock

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a replica GT40 constructed by Franco Sbarro on one of his own tubs (non-original) in the 1980s. The owner claims that it is original GT40 #P1040 (my car, which I have owned for 26 years), has obtained FIA papers for this chassis number, and appears in many European vintage races. Ronnie Spain and others have documented Sbarro's shenanigans with GT40s extensively. The day of reckoning on this "1040" ruse may be arriving soon.

Hello Donald,

Many thanks for this INTERESTING STORY about GT40 P/1040 ! Very sorry to here about your case.

Please find the link to another thread about "Fakes" :

If I understand we saw at Le Mans :

- a recreation of a the 67' Le Mans winner, J11
- a burnt and buldozed P/1005
- a schizophrenic P/1040

Any others GT40s not "clear" entered at Le Mans ?

I hope not too much !

Best regards

WALTER

( Let me tell you guys that I'm amazed by the quality of the people chating here. )
