Take a look at the Tornado Intercept Vehicle.
Someone built a vehicle for filming (IMAX) tornados up close. They took a Ford 450 Super Duty truck and replaced the body with a steel space-frame covered with 1/8" steel panels and 1/2" Lexan for the windows. It looks like something out of "Star Wars" or "Damnation Alley". The vehicle has custom hydraulics so they can lower the body down to the road and sit there like a limpet to resist the tornado's winds.
