Stradivarius Violins == Ford GT40s?

Yesterday I listened to part of a radio program about the famous violins made 300 years ago by Antonio Stradivari.

As they were talking about the Stradivarius violins, I started thinking about how these violins reminded me of GT40s.

What got me thinking about this was when they mentioned that the violins are valued between $500,000 and $10,000,000. Which is roughly the same range as original GT40s. They also talked about whether these fine violins should be placed in museums or taken out and used. Then they mentioned that last year there was a conference for violin makers who are trying to reproduce Stradivarius violins. Part of the discussion at the conference was whether they should attempt to duplicate Stradivarius violins or should they study the Stradivarius violins and use them as a starting point for developing new designs.
