Water temp gauge

I have a mecanical Smith water temp gauge and futher to a overheating engine (I assume that was the root cause because of bad purging) my gauge is ending at 50° C when 'normal' temperature.
My question is trheefoild:
1.Does anyone had same experience and is the gauge broken?
2.If I need to buy a new one,my concern is the line lenght connecting to engine (from front to back) as normal replacement do not have the lenght for a GT40.
3.Can I replace gauge with existing connection?

I believe if you remove the sender from the engine and drio the end into water you chould get a reading.

If that is the case then boil a kettle and drop the end in - it should read 100 degrees.(or there about)

If it doesn't then probably some damage somewhere.

I'll send you an e mail with details and prices of Smiths gauges from Speedy

ps I have nothing to do with Speedy - just had the info to hand

Regards
Ian
