Rear Suspension Upgrade

Hi Guys,

CAV Canada is offering a new Rear Suspension Upgrade Kit. It's available in standard or wide track configuration.

What the new arms do is eliminate the bushings in the original CAV parts and the binding/friction that goes with them. Autofura has addressed this on cars produced from 100 onward. Our kit applys to all earlier cars.

Additional benifits include:

Quick and easy to dial in alignment by rod ends without using shims for rear toe-in.

Reduced unsprung weight by eliminating the braces used to counteract deflection of the hub by toe adjusting shims.

Center the tire on the wheel arch without running low on threads on the rod ends of the upper and lower trailing arms.

Additional rear anti-squat by tilting hub rearward (like front castor looks like).

Decreased angle of inclination of the rear coil-over mounts which reduces the loss of spring rate in bump, so it won't bottom as easily.

No deflection of bushings to upset tire contact patch provides for better grip everywhere, acceleration, breaking and cornering.

For the wide body cars running stock 15x10 wheels, this is the way to fill those big wheel arches and upgrade handling and ride at the same time.

The kit is a bolt-on part and makes a huge difference to the performance and looks of these supercars. Pics to follow.

Cheers

The new arms not only look the part, they're functional too. The rod-ends and monoballs are premium race car parts and the tubing is .140 DOM steel. All welds are tig. Standard finish is high heat silver metallic with clear coat. Looks just like factory finish. Other colours available.

Inclination of the hub to introduce Anti-Squat is accomplished by a 1" spacer added to the upper clevis pin. Additional clearance on the lower shock mount from the parking brake caliper also reduces the angle the coil-over lays at. This means less loss of spring rate as the coil-over moves up when you're in bump or on the outside rear wheel when cornering hard.

New arm and stock arm. As some of know, the car works quite well on the stock arms, however the seat of the pants input immediately tells you the rear end is more planted and controlled. Ride quality actually improves. Although the new arms are slightly heavier, getting rid of the braces results in a total net weight savings, especialy on the hub assembly which is complete dead weight.

Skirt Cam shot... The upgraded arm looks quite like the original part from this angle, however it is not a copy of the original. We're heavier and stronger, plus the rear toe adjuster mount has been designed to prevent side loading of the rod-end. Aligning the car is now a breeze.

The brace on the rear hub was required to reduce loads caused by placing shims under the rear most retaing bolt of the mounting bar for the lower control arm. Now that arm is solidly bolted flat to the hub and you can kiss the brace goodbye.

For you wide body guys here's how to get rid of the Buick Roadmaster look over the rear wheels! The Wide Track Kit increases rear track width by 3" total and includes new longer driveshafts machined from 4340 steel, new upper lateral links, parking brake housing spacers, new rear brake flex lines with original European fittings.

In case you've fitted wider wheels/larger tires then buy the standard width Rear Suspension Upgrade Kit so you get the handling to match the looks.

Ian,

Can the CAV upgrade (wider track) be applied to GTDs?!! I am sure not all the parts. But may be the major pieces?

Thanks,

Good question,

Since the CAV monocoque chassis evolved from the long gone GTD/CAV manufacturing partnership there's likely some upgrades that will cross brands. How about sending some pics or dimensions to [email protected] and I'll get back to you.

Cheers
