Another Windshield Question

I was planning on driving my car in gelcoat for about 6 months to shakedown the car, then paint it. Another GT40 soon-to-be-owner asked if I plan to glue the windshield in during that time, and how was I planning to paint the car after the shakedown. Can the windshield be easily removed (undamaged), the car painted, and the windshield re-installed? Or is there another (better) approach?

Bill, I would leave it in and tape around it for painting the body, but it would come out better to paint first then install the glass. Sometimes the tape really sticks to the glass adhesive and pulls some of the adhesive and paint up. I wouldn't paint the flange that the glass adhesive is put on. You want the adhesive to be in contact with the fiberglss flange and not depending on how well the primer & paint is bonded to the fiberglass flange. If you take glass out without putting a crack in it, next comes cleaning the adhesive off...... not fun!

It's not really a big deal. I just have to be careful
taping off to avoid getting overspray on it.
You really only want to glue the screen in once.
