Dear Members,

Over the last few months we’ve seen a few threads degenerate into mudslinging matches. Here are a few examples:

http://www.gt40s.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/72297/an/0/page/0#72297

http://www.gt40s.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/67290/an/0/page/0#67290

http://www.gt40s.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/64912/page/0/fpart/3/vc/1

And I am sure there are others.

This forum was founded to be a place of high quality content with a high signal to noise ratio. These types of posts and rants, in my opinion, lower the quality of the forum. If you chose to participate in this type of banter then you are simply contributing to lowering the overall quality of our forum and our content. Even if you are in the right.

I for one am all for freedom of speech and posting openly on the forum. However, once you post an opinion of something or someone, then I really see no point in bringing it up repeatedly. Once you’ve said your piece then be done with it. And, if you have a problem with a manufacturer or feel you’ve been slighted, then I strongly suggest you bring it up on the forum but do so in a clearly written manner in the proper place, which most of the time will be the Consumer Watch forum.

I do not like censorship. I really don’t want to resort to banning members, locking down threads, and other such activities. I feel that the mudslinging behavior we’ve seen on a few threads at www.gt40s.com really doesn’t fit what 99% of our membership is about. I don’t get emails from members and visitors commenting on the great name-calling threads we have at www.gt40s.com. But I do get them about the helpful members we have at www.gt40s.com and the great body of technical information and expertise that we have. And this is what we wish to be known for, not infighting and name calling.

Best,
Ron

I do not know.

I do know this however. Any more threads that stray off topic with the juvenille name calling outside of the "Off Topics" forum will result in folks being banned for a little while. And, if it repeats then banned permanently.

This phemonenon has been a recent development and www.gt40s.com hasn't seen anything like it since Sean (Meat) was on the forum years ago. While it appears some enjoy it for novelty and humor, most of use tire of it quickly.
