Diesel Audi trans ratio's ?

Would anybody be able to tell me what the ratio's are for a diesel Audi transmission <manual> from an '82 4000s. I would assume it would give the car a higher speed due to lower gearing of the lower reving diesel motor. I have been unable to determine these ratio's by "googling." Anyone have any leads on this.

Thanks for any information.

Diesel Audi Trans Ratios

Ryan - I assume you're thinking about the Audi 016 type 3U transaxle. This was fitted to the Audi5000 diesel (Audi 100 in Europe). Ratios are

016 Serial Number prefix 3U
1st - 3.60
2nd - 1.88
3rd - 1.19
4th - 0.84
5th - 0.64
R&P - 3.89

Your profile doesn't indicate where you live, but in North America you'll find that the type 3U is as rare as hen's teeth. If an Audi trans is in your plans for economic reasons, I'd recommend you get the type 5N and fit with custom R&P available from GTA in Oregon. See this thread:

I was considering that.

Pricey but not bad for the $$$.
Why would you recomend the 5N?

I was under the impression that the AAZ, or 3V was better option for V8 use.
Is this correct or are they super rare as well?

Thanks for your info sir!!! Super informative.

I am new to mid-engine car building and young, 24. Not a lot of years under me yet.

So thanks for the info as it is really helping me out.

Peace
Ryan

I live in Milliken Colorado with a dog, he's cooler than me.

I have found some #'s any idea on ratio.

Seems to be a 01330123?D WWO1, any idea on these ratio's?

Thanks again.

Check the top of the bell housing for the ratio code stamping.
You may have to use a wire brush to clean the case to see it.
