New Rear Uprights

Hi guys,

We've been very busy toiling away at upgrade parts for our favorite Supercar. Anytime an opportunuty arises to improve the function, strength, appearance or weight of a part, it's worth investigating.

The new CAV Rear Upright is intended for use on the "Series 1" first 100 CAV GTs produced - the cars prior to Autofuturas upgrades. The pictures below are of the first production sample yet to be painted.

There are several benifits to this part besides strength and looking too sexy:

1) Reduced rate of camber climb in bump. This helps keep you tires in contact with the road and will improve application of power on corner exit as well as in a strait line. There is a subtle change in the location of the upper and lower pickup poits on the upright although the stock or CAV Reversed Lower A-Arms work without further modification.

2) Reduced Unsprung Weight. These steel weldments are 2lbs lighter than the aluminum castings with steel bolt on blocks as stock. Reducing unsprung weight improves ride and wheel control.

3) Cooling, the CNC machined bearing carrier includes 15 holes that allow air to be drawn through the upright, past the hub bearing and into the brake rotors. Less rear brake heat and bearing heat soak results.

4) Backwards Compatible, these parts will bolt onto any CAV GT equipped with the cast rear uprights shown. The original part is no longer available and repairing cast aluminum is not advised.

5) Stock or Upgrade Brakes, the new uprights will accomodate the PBR calipers supplied with the car or any racing caliper that interchanges with the PBR (which is a Corvette or Mustang Cobra caliper to begin with so lots of brake options are available).

The new upright has been in developement for quite a while and a lot of computer time, test shots and redsigns have been done to make this part. It will be fitted to all CAV Canada cars starting 2007.

Parts are being made now so we will have inventory on hand shortly. Hope you like it:)

Hi Ian,

You around? Wondering if you can give us an idea of cost on this one....??

Looks absolutely beautiful. Obviously, highly engineered and well made.

Thanks!

Will these fit older (pre-100) with your lower arms mod incorporated?
Any idea of pricing yet?

Great job!

Hi Ray, Veek,

The pictures of the new Rear Upright show the functionality of the part but not the final dimensions.

The production part moves the hub upwards in relation to the ground, effectively increasing shock travel by almost 1". Good news for sure. This was a bonus side effect of reducing the rate of camber change in bump.

So you get a stronger, lighter, cooler running (and looking) part with increased coil-over travel and improved suspension geometry. It will be come set to use with the stock or the Revised Lower A-Arms a lot of guys have already.

To get the price down there will be an exchange credit for your used uprights. Rebuildable parts will get overhauled and put into a stock upright exchange program and save you dough on the racey bits.

The New Rear Uprights will come to you finished in either Black, Aluminium or Magnesium Cast paint, base and clear coated. If you send your rear uprights assemblies with hubs only (no brakes please) you will get the new ones with hubs and NEW SKF Bearings properly installed and pre-loaded ready to go back on the car. This is an instock program so turn around time will be 2>3 days. Deliveries start in January.

The New Rear Uprights cost 1,295.00 each with a 300.00 exchange credit for each of your rebuildable uprights, so 995.00 each + S&H.

If your don't already have the Revised Lower A-Arms and buy them with the New Rear Uprights as a package you'll save 10% off the 1,500 price of the a-arms, net 1,350 pair for the arms.

This part, just like the revised lower a-arms and new ZF transaxle bracket make a huge improvement to an already excellent vehicle. Our goal is to bring the handling performance level in line with the ridgid stainless monocoque chassis, outstanding interior trim and of course the fabulous body shape.

Cheers
