Progressive NOS...

Hi all -

I've just wired a progressive nos controller to DaveP's GTD42 and wondered if anyone on the forum here has had much experience of such setups?

Last year at Brighton, his 6.3L Chevy Powered 42 had a single hit of 150BHP which, surprise surprise, was a little too much for the tyres (Hoosier slicks) to hang on to, getting somewhat sideways each time the gas came on..:D

So, we've now fitted a controller that allows you to set the initial hit of gas, as a percentage of maximum and the time for it to ramp up to 100% (i.e. 150BHP in this case).

So, the question is, where to start? - we are guessing that you try say 30% start (45BHP) and a 1.50s ramp up to full on (150BHP). Then, IF the car breaks traction straight away, reduce the start hit, and if it breaks traction mid-revs, then increase the ramp up...

Conversely, if it takes 45 initially easily, then this can be increased till ALMOST breaking traction and similarly the ramp up time to 100% can be reduced until again it ALMOST breaks traction mid-track.....

Does this seem reasonable??? - One of you racers out there must have 'been there - done that'....

OF course this is all assuming that

(a) Brighton in 2 weeks time is DRY and preferably SUNNY...

(b) The six-speed straight cut UN1 conversion with Quaife ATB stands up to 383ci of Motec Chevy plus a 150 shot of gas...

Testing times indeed.

Question also is - do we 'try it first' on a suitable nearby stretch of tarmac before Brighton and risk being a 'spectator' at Brighton?
:D:D:D

Hi PAUL, Definately yes to pre Brighton trials, how many times have we pushed his car away from the start line with broken transmission over the years, far too many ! If you get it set right and it holds together he should get into the top 10 run off. Frank
