hi all and help needed

now people how is everyone im vince as you might be able to tell im also new to pc's and forums so please be patient and excuse any mistakes i may make

now i would like some information and might have some for you my dad who sadly passed in 2005 used to tell me stories of hes days as a lorry driver delivering all types of stuff for different people and firms
he used to tell me of his antics but one thing that he always told me was always the truth
now its been 3 years and hes always in my mind and thoughts i remember him telling me of the times he used to deliver race cars impaticular GT40 from down this end of the country to somewhere up the M1 and the times that the cars were unloaded and drivern up the M1 while the drivers mate would cath up with the lorry
now he told me of only a couple of cars that were in gulf colours ie blue with the orange but these couple of cars were not using the ford v8 but were prototypes with v12 engines but we (the family) have never seen any or heard of any have you ? well thats it for now i hope this has been of some insight for you thats it all said and done and good luck with the cars
thanks

cannot comment on the V12 issue or whether Gulf colour GT40s were ever driven on the M1, BUT, one of my earliest recollections around the GT40 was when I was an apprentice at Westinghouse and one of the engineers I worked with talked about driving up the M1 soon after it was opened and BEFORE speed limits were introduced. He said that he was driving between London and Leicester (I think) and a GT40 and a Cobra both passed him doing well over the ton. He then saw them going back the other way and they passed him again before he got to his destination. The legend is that it was this episode that caused the speed limits to be introduced although I cannot vouce for that. Great story though and even if it's not true we all want it to be!

Welcome to the GT40s forum Vince!

I wouldn't be a bit suprized to learn that Ford authorized a trial of the GT40 using a Ferarri engine... :)

Hi Vince,
I wonder if the V12 car may have been a Mirage M2 with the BR17 V12 3 liter (BRM)engine fitted. I only have a couple of references to it, looks a bit like a T70 coupe & the BRM was later replaced with a Cosworth DFV 3liter.

Welcome to the forum, I am sure there are others who may be able to share light on this.

Hi Vince

Im also new to the Forum, but i recall that Jaguar and Aston Martin were regular users of the M1, for testing purposes and delivering from factory to factory for specialist workshop on protrtyps like the XK13 [V12 GT looalike back in the mid sixties]] possibly this is what he could of mistaken for a 40.
I believe only 3 of these are left in existance.
But the thought of Ford sticking a V12 in a 40, kills the romance of those great V8,S in a GT Racer for me.
good start to interesting thread Vince
