Let's see.....thousands of feet down if you screw up, dusty as hell, sun is in your eyes, 1000HP, you gotta use your "free" hand to shield the sun from your eyes - and everyone is waiting for you to set a new record.

Calling them "balls" at this level just doesn't seem to cut it.

I was there to congradulate Ari when he finished that day. Peugeot had a very nice catered tent for their dealer group at 13,000'. If memory serves me Ari finished 2nd after one of the Unser boys. He ran the last half of that climb on a flat rear tire causing Peugeot the win. That was their last run on Pikes Peak and soon after Peugeot announced their retreat from the US market.

This is Walter Röhrl at pikes peak 1987. That year he won against Ari Vatanen ( and
the Unsers)
For me his style esd never reached by any other driver. Just see how elegant he drives this monster through the turns.
