cleaning SPF exhaust silencers

I'm just finishing up my Spring cleaning on the GT40 and was not looking forward to attending the exhaust silencers. They had a really gnarly looking "patina" of cooked-on oil and grease spatters along with assorted road spooge. I envisioned considerable clean-up effort, but was pleasantly surprised. I used some stuff I got at my local Ace Hardware, Ace Professional Stainless Cleaner and Polish, applied with a Scotch-Brite pad, and it worked great. They look like new, with surprisingly little effort.
