SPF GT40 in New Jersey?

Hi, forum members,

I'm a newcomer here (obviously), & after a few years of salivating, I'm getting ready to start my SPF GT40 quest. I'd be very interested in seeing an owner's car in the NJ/NY area. Might anyone be planning to show their car at an upcoming event, or a club meeting?

Another question: dealers are few & far between, and I'd imagine they all have a pretty close relationship with Superformance & with their customers. That said, do any particular US dealers (esp. East Coast) stand out, either for good or bad reasons? Any big warning flags or things you wish you'd done differently in buying your car?

I am just beginning to do research on the GT40 and am about two years away from starting my build. All the good research that I have done on the SPF is coming back to Olthoff Racing. Good luck!

IMO Dennis Olthoff is who you should talk to about the SPF 40. He didn't do mine but if I had to do it all over again he'd be my choice.

Thanks for the tips. Olthoff moves up the list. I'll plan to speak to Dennis regarding a visit. It looks like he's sold a bunch of these.

Rick, a family negotiation is taking place re: the Glen... if I can make it, I'll be sure to stop by. GT40s draw me like a moth to light, so I'll find you.

Geoff, WELCOME! Just an FYI.....I purchased my car from a local FL dealer who obtained the car from a guy in NJ who had the car built. Apparently after the build he found NJ had some interesting rules and regs for registering the car. My car is not a SPF but a CAV car (which I'm in love with just in case you hadn't consider them) and he indicated some issues with registering his car in NJ. This, from what I can tell, prompted him to sell the car. I'm sure you've done your homework in that regard but just in case you haven't please check into that prior to your purchase. Good Luck and happy motoring.

Dennis O. has done three cars for me. The last was a MKII with a 427 FE.
He knows the cars and has completed the first cars sent to this country. He went to SA to help develop the SP GT40 before introduction. This weekend he is at Elkhart Lake driving one of the GT40-Rs in vintage class. Good people! I'm a happy camper.

Thanks for the replies, both here & via PM. I've now talked to Dennis Olthoff, who was very helpful over the phone, & I'll be visiting his shop in NC in mid-October. I wasn't able to make it to the Glen, but I think I'll get to see his GT40R down at his shop anyway.

Dennis seemed to have the 4-1-1 on registering the car in NJ, & as far as I can tell, NJ does allow historic registration on appropriate cars (it looks like the SPF GT40 would meet their requirements. They have a "historic" designation & a "collector's" designation; I think the GT40 would fall in their historic category.) Insurance would then be done through one of the classic car insurance specialists, e.g. Hagerty, etc. But if anyone has any more info or horror stories regarding NJ registration, I'd love to hear from you.
