Ignition Light

Hi
Has anyone any idea why when I rev my engine above 2,000 rpm, the ignition light flashes ? The engine is a ford 302, standard "Mustang" type alternator with external voltage regulator. The charging system appears to work fine. I am pretty sure that the ignition light hadn't used to flash like this, but has only started to happen after the car stood for a while. I have had a look at the alternator, and it appears to be OK. I am making the presumption that it is something to do with the alternator / regulator, but at the end of the day, it may be something completely different.

Might have bad regulator or a shorted diode in the rectifier?

Disconnect the alternator positive cable and run the engine again for a short time to isolate it as the source of your troubles..
