request for any photos of 1040 from Elkhart Lake

I understand that 1040 was shown at the Elkhart Lake reunion, as it is being restored. I have a soft spot for this car, for a couple of reasons: it has had "more than its share of low moments", according to John Allen- the car was damaged several times and then spent ages in a disassembled state locally here in Maryland. I think it was sold in 2007 or 2008 and is (finally!) being restored to the conformation it was in when it was campaigned at LeMans by the Filipinetti team- red with a white stripe, one fuel filler, etc.

I have to say that in spite of having no car to bring to EL this summer*, had I known that 1040 was going to be there, I would have gone just to see it in the process of coming back to life. When I saw it (or pieces of it) years ago, it was in such sad shape that it gave me chest pain. There are a limited number of these cars which were actually built in the sixties and can be documented as such- 1040 is one of them. While the body may not be the one it came with, the tub is original and that is the heart of a GT40. If anyone has any photos of the car from Elkhart Lake, I would appreciate it if they would post them, or PM me and if possible arrange to email them to me. I won't forward them if they are private- I just would like to see them and be able to appreciate the fact that the car is going to be a complete unit and driven again- hopefully at vintage events for all of us to enjoy.

*I will, unless I am pushing up daisies, be at the 50th reunion with MY GT40, 1149. So help me.

I was particularly interested in the steering wheels of the original cars. So many replicas are fitted with modern, fat-grip wheels that just look all wrong to me. I failed to bring my micrometer with me to measure the thickness of the grip of this original wheel, but I figure the photos tell the tale well enough:

A few more.

The red / gold GT 40 is AM GT 40/1, my GT 40. The event was great for me. I was also able to run on the track with 1051 during the weekend.

I am putting a photo in the Gallery section of the "Steering Wheel" of the 1965 GT-40 #108 Mark I. It was not at Elkhart Lake but it might be helpful. Maybe you can rverse engineer out it's size from other parts of the steering wheel.
