Can someone please clarify a specific detail ?

Where the spark occurs in the distributor, i.e between the surfaces of the contact breakers, it appears to me that the surface the spark arcs between,
is of a different material to the spring steel these surfaces are laminated to.
Would anyone be able to confirm this and also advise what material is used please ?

Thanking you in anticipation.

Bob's right. They are tungsten, or some tungsten alloy, I imagine. Not that very many sets of contact breaker points are sold nowadays.....they also have to resist the tendency of metal to get vaporized off the points as the contact gets made and broken. Amazing that they worked so well all those years and miles til something better came along.
