Slide Carburettor

Way back! I did Karting and we used slide carburettors on the 100cc 2 stroke engines. The carb did not have a butterfly but instead had a sliding piece of metal with a hole in in the same size as the carb throat

Was this technology everused on V8's? It would reduce the restriction due to the butterfly and could reduce the height needed for under bonnet clearance for fuel injected units

Ian,
the Cosworth DFV used that type of arrangment and Alan Smith Engines of Derby had some crossover manifolds made for his F5000 Chevy engines using the same system. They looked fantastic but because of the crossover design were very restrictive, OK for ported original iron heads but head technology quickly overtook them in terms of flow. Somebody has had some recast for the Historic F5000S but are very complex and expensive.

Porsche 917 had an injections system that used a sliding vane in lue of a butterfly valve. I like the idea myself as long as they could seal them correctly.
