Cav ammeter part number question

Hi,

I've just bought a NOS CAV Ammeter, marked 5539/233 E.

It also has a small handwritten label marked 69443733 attached.

How does this vary to a 5539/233 T version, which everybody seems to use?

Hoping I've bought the right one!

Cheers,

Geoff.

Bump.

Nobody got any ideas?

I'd hate to re-wire all the other instruments and find this is no good.

Looking foward for some wisdom out there.

Cheers,

Geoff.

This is a shot in the dark from a guy who knows practically nothing about electricity--in fact I'm convinced it's actually magic!

I know lots of older British cars used positive ground. Could it be that your ammeter is designed for one of those bizarre contraptions?

I believe (Heard in the past but never verified it) that there are 2 ammeters
1 has an inbult shunt (runs full current through the unit) and one requires an external shunt

How you tell the difference and wire them up is foreign to me - I'm much like Mike on the electrickery stuff.
