Kellison GT40k Build

Ive had this body for about 6 months now and really havent done much to it until this new year. Im getting really exicted seeing that its starting to come together now. the body was in the worst condition you could get it, I just fabricated the hood vent and put that in, I cut the rear end spoiler off and am installing a wing that about 7inch off the rear, the rear fenders will be molded into the wing. I will have glass tops in the roof and have the doors open in a 90degree kind of way. Instead of using a transaxle I am putting in a short block 302 with a short shaft c4 trans or a muncie depending on how much room i have to work with and the rear will have a quick change axle so I can run taller gears for the street and short for the track. Hopefully I can fit a short drive shaft along with everything. I ordered a rear frame kit from summit racing along with the four link suspension with should arrive in a few weeks. The front end will have either be mustang or corvette depending on what I can get my hands on. I will have the car painted flat black. I am trying to make the car look like a ford gt but then again I am adding a bit of a twist. What does everyone think? Any opinions and help with the mechanical part would be great!

I've toyed with the idea of using a Ford T-Bird IRS in a sand buggy using this arrangement....a SBF with an automatic trans (although, I could suppose a manual could be used), ONE U-joint between the transmission's output yoke and the differential. That could be all solid mounted, as the suspension would be provided by the IRS....no driveshaft needed if the alignment between the output of the transmission and the pinion angle were carefully set. Your 4-bar rear suspension is ideal for changing pinion angles. I have a parallel 4-bar rear suspension on my Cobra, it is great for straight-line performance, but the live-axle is less capable in terms of driving comfort...but who really cares about comfort when you're driving a Cobra  ?

Please keep posting on the project, I'd like to see how your north-south drivetrain idea works for you....you'll have much more limited space to deal with when you're trying to get the wheels in the wheel-wells than I would have when building a sand-buggy.

Cheers from Doug!!

I hadn't thought about the quick-change, but being a purpose built project, I wouldn't need "street" gearing.

Looking forward to seeing photos of your build. The body proportions as related to your drivetrain selections are intriguing.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited to start putting the drivetrain together in about 3-4 weeks. I just got the four link frame rail and the quick change should be in by next week. Ill post up mass pictures once things start coming together

Wow my grammer suck!.. So change of plans with the doors going 90degree. Im building a device that will do something very cool. Basically I want the door to open up normal and then I want it to open scissor style. So what I am gonna do it have a hinge on the frame that connected with a motor. what it will do is, I hit a switch that decideds what the doors are gonna do. If you want it to scissor the motor will spin the hindge 30 degrees up, then if you want it to open nomarl you hit the switch which will spin the hindge down to the right level so it opens normal... What do you think?

Sounds like an exercise in engineering, but at the cost of a lot of weight. It all depends, and really only matters, as to what you desire and what your goals are.

That would be a great idea except I will have a 500hp motor that would bind and snap that as soon as I step on the gas. Perhapes you were refearing to couplers or a stub shaft?. Those would be an alternitive if I dont have enough room for a drive shaft. I just got a call from a guy who use to race indy cars that has a hydrulic 5 speed automatic indy trans thats only about 9inches long, I dont know if that is with or without the tail but either way thats some great news! All I need is the housing and I will for sure have enough from for a bigger drive shaft..:pepper:..Or Ill just add a bigger block with that much room to spare!!

Thank you!. Since my gt40 is not exact I thought I should make it somewhat different. Plus it sure would be nice to have a few more pounds in the front! Since the last post yesterday I have actually built how the doors will work, Still needs a few tweaks but all together it weighs about 20-25lbs. I used heavy duty window motors, I might replace the heavy duties with something from a compact car to reduce the weight. Engineering should be my last name:!blank:

Here are some pictures as of 2 weeks ago, A lot more has been done so I will get those on here by sunday. Ill also take pictures of the frame rail, new wing being put in and the custom hindges...I know it doesnt look the greatest but I live for challanges
