Please post photos of the work, this will be a fascinating restoration.
 
VERY cool, Jim- who was driving that day, any idea? Those guys were brave.. cloth helmets and cotton overalls......scary.

Raymond Sommer also won LeMans in 1932 and 1933, and a number of other Grand Prix races (I think the term Formula One must have come later on) He was killed at the age of 44 in a race accident at Cadours, in France- the Wikipedia entry states that "his cloth helmet was no use at all"...even modern race cars are dangerous. Race cars in those days were more than dangerous.
