Flying field

Finally, our club field dried out enough so we can begin the season on wheels, not floats. This is a shot of the south facing end of the field at our first field meeting of the season. The P 51 was up for sale.

Andy - I'll check with the owner. It has a single cyl 2 stroke, 85cc I believe. It looked to be the Bud Nosen design kit or similar. I was only there for a short while to arrange flight classes for some incoming students so I didn't get any particulars on the bird. Just sold my 1/3 scale Sukhoi SU26 w/ twin cyl engine as I just don't have the time now due to work on the 40. Need to get it on the road. Any spare time goes to the car, with a day or two now and then for training students at the flight school. The Mustang looked good but not like you would see at Top Gun or similar events. Probably the best one out there is the CARF. I've seen their P 47 and it is gorgeous! What are you flying these days?

I have been looking for a large Mustang for a while but its got to be top class.

As you say the CARF stuff is good. I have one of their Spitfires and a couple of the MIG's.

Latest models at the moment are 1/7 F15 twin, 1/6 Hawker Hunter and a 1/4 scale Spitfire I just bought from a guy in Gilroy, CA.

Also just finished a Parkzone Habu foamy with a Turbine in it.

lots of guys who are into car building have built models of some sort in the past.

Thanks

Andy

Love the Spitfire! I have some pics from the 2013 Top Gun in Lakeland Fl but had to resize them to fit the forum format. Hope they are OK. I will be working on a 1/5 F4U Corsair (ESM) with a 5 cyl radial as soon as the car is complete and registered. Had to take some time off after getting hit head-on by a wrong way driver but doing better now and trying to get back to a somewhat normal routine. You're right in that it seems a lot of the forum members have an interest in aircraft as well. I'd love a J-3 Cub (full size!) but with the GT40, one daughter still in college and my recent injuries, it's just 'not in the cards'.

WOW, those machines are spectacular. When's the next event in Lakeland, FL? I'd like to come down and see these aircraft in action. Wishes for a continued recovery Al. Sad to hear of the accident.

Jimmy - Top Gun is usually around the first weekend inJune but there are similar events around the US (plus Germany, the UK) that feature many of these same aircraft. PM me and I will get a location list to you. In the meantime, check out these from Ron Randall @ Metalmorphous in Conn. All in aluminum, not paint or mylar. Check the larger pic - all the guns, feed rack, ammo are hand made. Also a couple from our club field.

Spitfire is 1/4 scale , 110" wingspan and weighs 40lbs. Powered by a ZDZ 100cc in line twin with a working scale live exhaust system.
Flying prop is a 24 X 10 carbon 4 blade but the prop in the pictures is a static scale prop. The original owner spent 2 1/2 years building it and detailed it rivet by rivet. I just do not have the time to do this sort of thing myself.

I also have a Carf Spitfire still in the box bought back when they were still Fibre Classics. We all seem to have more projects than we have time for.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

Thanks

Andy

I'd love to get back in the sport... Those are beautiful planes!

All I have presently is a small helicopter and an AR.Drone ....

Al - I was not aware you were in an accident! I hope all is well or as well as can be expected! Head on! That's some pretty serious stuff!!!
