Is RBT Transmission still in business?

I live about 5 miles away from the address in Anaheim given on RBT's website. I stopped by two days ago Monday and the shop seemed vacant except some pictures on the wall and memorabilia in dusty display cases. Does anyone know if they are still in business?

Lloyd was certainly in business and had a stack of work on when I called in on him
back in late January.

Lloyd Butfoy is a good friend of mine. He runs a one-man operation, and also has Real Life to deal with (father of a young child etc.) The nature of his work means that he sometimes works in the afternoons/evenings, or if the weather is very hot, he'll come in crazy early and knock off by early afternoon.

The front of the building is really nothing; there is a huge warehouse-type space in the back which is where all the work is done, parts stored, and also parking for his toys (dune buggy, Pantera etc.)

It's frustrating for customers sometimes because he's not the greatest at answering his phone or e-mail. But he's a super guy and does super work, and it's worth the effort needed to reach him!

At least Lloyd is there, and doing work.

A couple years ago I went to the machine shop doing the work on a custom crank and cam and, wow, place was completely emptied out. Phone disconnected. No sight of the $ I gave them. That's a bad feeling.

Good to go by the vendor's place of business sometimes....just to see what the hell is going on (or not).

Hello , a few weeks ago I stopped at the shop and met Lloyd . It was a very pleasant experience and had a nice chat with Lloyd . He was doing work on some transmissions so he really is still in business .

It's worth mentioning that new RBT transaxles do not come from Lloyd's shop. They are completely manufactured in Austin TX by HP Gear, a custom industrial transmission manufacturer. Lloyd is the only US order entry point, tho'. All you have to do to order one is get Lloyd on the phone. So try him early, 7-9 am PDT. If no answer, leave him a voice mail, he'll get back to you.

Be absolutely clear about what you want: GT40 orientation (vs Pantera), CV axle flanges (vs u-joint), and mechanical clutch arm (vs none).

Mine shipped out of Austin last month, after about 12 weeks lead time. I have not seen it yet, as it went straight to Olthoff Racing in NC.

I was 475 miles from home with a axle output seal spewing gear oil; got it apart and found the outer bearing had gone wobblie. Got Lloyd's cel # from another GT40 specialist in North Carolina. Lloyd answered, was in the Texas shop where the boxes are made, gave me the retail part # for the bearing. I called Brown bearing 14 miles away from me and they had 14 on the shelf. All happy now. Great help/results...............($12.00 part so I bought spares)
