HOW DO YOU REGISTER THESE BEASTS?

All I will have is a bill of sale for a partially completed kit. I will finish the kit, and then how do I register it? I know it varies state by state but any insights would help. Chip in Atlanta

Chip,

Did you finally find a GT-40? If so which did you decide on?

Don't know about GA, but in CA, you have the choice of registering a "Specialty Constructed Vehicle" by the body year, or by the engine year. This is only for first time registration.

Since the GT40 was never a production car (except for the few MkIII's), you would say it's a 1965 and be required to have the smog equipment that was in effect for the year.

In CA, we are limited to 500 per year. So far, we have about 450 still available for this year.

Chip,

There are various vehicle title services

that specialize in kit car registration.

All they require is a bill of sale. You sell

the car to them for a dollar, they sell it

back to you titled and registered in a

cooperative state for a fee. Then all you

have to do is transfer title and register

the car in your home state.

Try Titles Unlimited or U.S. Title Service.
