Name ownership question

Hello

My name is Phil McNamara from Autocar magazine in England. I was trying to establish who actually owns the name GT40. I have heard that Ford sold the rights in the 70's to an English company called Saphire Engineering or JW Automotive. With the herald of the new car I was wondering if this would be an issue for Ford? Can any one help?

The company name is Safir and as far as I know they still own it. They have allowed others to build replicas for years with no problems. Don't know about now though.

There are others far more knowlegable than I and I'm sure they'll give you the scoop.

Contact Bob Wood at Safir GT40 Spares who can be reached by email at [email protected]. They and Holman Inc are the owners of the GT40 trademark as I understand it. Safir have, I think, licensed the GT40 brand back to Ford for use on their new car, if it ever gets built.
