Moved - forum discussion on cars for sale, GTD for sale

I know of a part completed GTD for sale if anyone is interesed.
It was my car a few years ago, but I had to sell it. Will make someone a cracking car!
It is a GTD chassis, with most of the aluminiun panelling already installed to a very high standard, it has 6 pot calipers on the front, 4 pots rear, knock on/off 6 pin hubs, rack, Roy smart engine mounts, rose jointed suspension, lowered rear chassis (to make gearbox lower)

Also to add to this package there is all the body panels, (front clip, rear clip, roof, doors, sills, dash) windscreen, side windows, headlight covers.

I think he's looking for £7,500 (which seems a pretty good deal in my books)

Please feel free to drop me an email or PM me and I will put you in touch with the owner (who I believe doen't use this forum)

Simon

Re: GTD for sale

Jeez, not again! I paid my subs, I don't post ebay now I can't post other cars for sale?
How in gods name are we to expand this forum if forum members are not allowed to post when they see a car for sale? NOT every single GT40 replica owner is on this forum, this restriction means that forum members can only buy cars on this forum that other forum members own or build? surely this is incredibly short sighted? I am not doing this for profit, JUST to help out someone else who owns a GT40, and maybe another forum member who may be looking for a car.
The restrictions placed on cars for sale do NOTHING to help the forum members, nor the reputation of this forum. I'll say it AGAIN, why not let all and sundry post, but make ONLY forum members able to access the contact details of cars for sale? I just can't see what the objection would be? Anyone care to elighten me how this could be "worse" than the current situation? at the end of the day, this would mean even more income for the forum owner!

And I'll say it AGAIN - two different models, two different ways of thinking.

Most forums, including this one, require the person who is looking for the service, i.e., advertising the car for sale, to pay a fee to list the car.

New Cars, Used Cars - Find Cars at AutoTrader.com
Welcome to Club Cobra...The world's largest non-biased Cobra site! - Club Cobra
427 Cobra Country--Ford AC Cobra replica manufacturers SUPER-SITE

and so on. Anyone can browse the ads and cars for sale at no cost, just like this forum. I'm sorry that you dislike the format so much.

It is actually quite simple, Simon. Have your friend pay the minimal subscription to advertise his car for sale and you just expanded the forum by one more member who has paid for advertising his car for sale. You advertising it for FREE and then having potential buyers contact you for details circumvents the rules. Hope it is clear.

When a GT40 owner wants to sell his GT40, surely it means he wants to get OUT of GT40 ownership (for the most part) paying for a years membership to a forum he will probably no longer use just seems nuts! hope this is clear!

I believe the least expensive membership is $35.00. Surely worth the price to advertise his car for sale to a target audience. While it might "seem[s] nuts!" to you, it is one of the forum rules which you have difficulty accepting.

I'm not advocating payment to BROWSE the ads, just payment for the contact details. Surely this would not discourage anyone from viewing the ads, but only SERIOUS viewers who want to BUY a GT40 (and join the forum) would have to pay? This can ONLY be a sensible improvement. I cannot possible see what the downside would be (no matter what the "other sites" do)

That would be a huge pain in the ass to implement and even more so to police. People can put all sorts of info in their text - am I supposed to read them all to make sure they don't violate the rules by putting a phone number or email where everyone could read it?

I don't know Simon. In all the years we've all been on this forum you've been the only fellow that has expressed this difficulty with how we handle the cars for sale side of things.

Correct me if I'm wrong - if other people hate the way the "Cars for Sale" works on GT40s.com then please chime in and let me know how you'd like it to be. We'll make it so.

You seem to be able to read every single post of mine! how difficult could it be?
Pistonheads runs a system whereby adverts are submitted for approval before they are posted, why couldn't adverts be sent to you or another moderator for approval and to see that they stick to the rules?
anybody can currently come along and buy a car off the gt40s.com forum with no contribution to the site and no further contact with any of the members, surely it makes sense to "capture" a GT40 owner at the beginning of their ownership and not the end?
I'm sure a change like this would bring MORE GT40s for sale onto the site. A benefit for the subscribers surely.
If someone is a subscriber to this site, it wouldn't make any difference to them which way it was done, as they would still have access to selling and buying cars.
I'm happy to volounteer to "vet" adverts to see that they comply with the "no contact details" rule if it'd help. I'd also be happy to hang on to phone numbers and email addresses and pass them along to paid up subscribers

Simon

I never read the for sale subforum. Experience has taught me to do that when you post here.

We could do just like Pistonheads. However, I don't prefer it. Unless there is a majority opinion that we need to change what we have I think the system is working as it was designed.

Don't look at the situation as "buying a membership" when you're selling your car. Look at it as paying and advertising fee. Ever sold a car in a newspaper? What did you do? Called them up, placed an ad, and paid a fee. Works the same here as it does on 99% of the car forums in existence. Would it be better if we had a new class of membership, a $35 "Sell your Car" membership? Same as a Bronze Supporter, lasts a year, but we'd just call it a fee. Would that help?

I certainly appreciate the offer of assistance. Should we change to that model we'll take you up on that offer.

Re: GTD for sale

If you are starting a vote, then my vote goes to Simon! and this isn't just because it's my car he very kindly offered to post for sale on this forum!

I have been a member for a few years, I have witnessed back stabbing from manufacturers, snipping between forum members, "Top seceret" information not being passed on to an honest request from a new forum member, blatant rudness if someone happens to ask a question that has been asked before, all be it many years before. Don't you dare mention front clips catches or paint codes....

I arranged to buy a transaxle from a certain French forum member, agreed a price, long international phones calls made, only to have him sell it to someone else.

I feel Simon is always the first to offer his advice, and support to any member, unlike those who only come back with negitive replies or the "you don't know that, well what on Earth do you think you are doing building a GT40!" mentality.

This forum can leave a bitter taste in ones mouth..

On the plus side , it has can be and has been very supportive, funny and friendly.

This rant has been along time coming and probably out of place..

Slightly miffed,

David..

Hi David,

I'm sorry that some of your experiences here on GT40s.com have been less than positive. However, none of the issues you cited have anything to do with the "Cars for Sale" policy that is in place. I hope that the forum will be a welcoming place for new members in the future. Good luck.

Re: Moved - forum discussion on cars for sale, GTD for sale

I have to agree with Ron (as I did the last time this came up, and every time before).

Just like placing an advert in a newspaper or online, or just about any other "For Sale"
medium, there should be a fee. I just checked - the San Diego Union Tribune offers
an online ad package starting at $25 for 3 weeks with 3 photos. Run till it sells, with up
to 18 photos is $69. GT40s.com for $35, pretty much unlimited photos, and runs for all
posterity for $35 is a pretty good deal, plus, you have an audience of potential buyers
who, by virtue of knowing about this site and perusing the "For Sale" section, are most
likely already interested.

Re: Moved - forum discussion on cars for sale, GTD for sale

Not strictly speaking "cars" for sale, but it does seem a bit silly if someone finds a piece of kit that is likely to be of interest to someone on here, they cant let peeps know about it.

Surely the main purpose of a "specialist car" forum such as this, where you cant go into your local "GT40" dealer and get parts, is to disseminate information and availability of parts to others. If only the manufacturer can post, then that negates a lot of prospective information. For example if I found a supplier of Hatwell latches for a fiver each - do I tell the owner of said latches - advertise (at cost) on the GT40s forum - they will pay you hundreds of £($) or do I say on here "pssttt! - there's a guy got 40 "hartwell" latches - only wants a fiver each - obviously doesnt know what they are worth - heres the link/tel no/address"?
Having said that, there might be different rules for selling a car, to letting someone know about a component, to be honest, I havent checked.

How about a compromise? Single line advert/pointer for free; a complete advert (including pics, details and write-up) to be chargeable. That way we get the best of both worlds?

Ah ha!

I remember we did this discussion once before, but that time around with Frank Catt.

Advertising Cars For Sale on GT40s.com

Again, of the majority wants a change when we'll change it.

Good concepts Richard. Will respond shortly.

Just thinking.... some of the outfits that probably make more $$$$ out of the site & members than any others are those like Summit, McMaster Carr, Willwood, Coleman, Racer Direct, Paint Shops, Dyno Operators & others that supply all the bits & pieces etc etc who are continually being mentioned ....
