Spam - read me!

Hi Folks,

The forum has been under many changes and development from our older developer, Harry of Magneticat. He's doing a good job and installing updates as well as additional protections against spammers, of which we have an extraordinary amount.

Harry has also fixed broken items, like the Support GT40s.com engine, the picture hosting, and a bunch of other issues. I think we'll be on stable footing going forward.

To moderators, if you see spam DELETE IT and BAN the user immediately. Err on the side of aggression. If the folks are legit they can email us and get signed back up.

To users, if you like the site and use it then sign up to be a supporter. Harry doesn't work for free and I don't plan to pay out of pocket for the site - I'm just the curator and will manage it.

And finally, we now have the ability to ban entire countries from seeing the forum. I want to do this as it'll assist in Spam control. Russia, China, Ukraine, India, Brazil, and Singapore are on my list to ban and I do not think it'll affect any active members that I'm aware of - if you think differently please let me know.

Thanks,
Ron

But...but...but, Ron - you're not being at all "P.C."! If someone from one of those "banned' countries decides to sue - they'll like sue in the 9th Short Circuit or the Fumbling 4th...WIN...and, the way things currently operate, SCOTUS will likely 'find' in their favor!

(Submitted only partially tongue-in-cheek.)

Hell, one absolutely 100% foolproof way to control spam is set the site up for members only to post. Anyone can read, but if you want to post then you have to make some minimal contribution to the site. Even a $1 minimum would take care of it. Spammers won't pay a buck to then be banned.

Ron please be careful attempting to ban countries from access to the forum. I'm sure there's a certain judge in Hawaii and the Attorney General from the Republic of Socialist State of Washington that will have you in front of the inept 9th Circuit Court of Appeals immediately upon your attempting to do the right thing.

Its a shame in this PC world that most folk think only options to avoid spammers etc is to add a cost or new rule onto those that use the product. having thought about it something along these lines might work... a list of questions about various GT40's or people involved in the forums that would require an aspiring member if they do not already have info to do some reading on the forums in order to answer those questions. Perhaps that would deter the one hit wonders. Renew or replace questions each 6 month's , year whatever. Might also reduce the number of needless questions people ask rather than look for themselves.

Phooey on the PC stuff... Banning those countries is A-OK by me...
I am nuking spammers as soon as they are reported or I encounter them,
Still doing soft deletes of the spam rather than removing them altogether - do you want us to continue that way?

Oh also - the Gt40s Bot posts from eBay are all being automatically "moderated" once again..

We are going to limit access from certain countries and we won't be going to court either.
