Arrow GT40s Forum Upgrade

Hi Folks,

It's time to upgrade the software on the site. And, it's time to discuss problems that you've seen on the forum and features you'd like to have that maybe you've seen on other forums.

GO!

Ron

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

Ron,

Some have an "automatic photo size" program that will properly size most any photo to meet forum requirements. Handy feature.

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

We were having issues awhile back with the "Mark Forums Read" button under the Quick Links menu not working.

The work around was to go to the Home Page and hit that "Mark Forums Read" button.

It would be easier not to have to do this, and simply use the button under the Quick Links menu.

I canít edit my posts in the paddock but can in other areas.
No edit button appears for me in the paddock.

Just edited this to prove I can do it outside paddock.

You can't edit here either after one hour has passed.....The forum has been that way for more than ten years.

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

I am aware of that...
To be clear - I mean there is no edit button for me in the paddock at any time within the hour after I send the original post.
I get an edit button within the hour limit in other areas of the forum.

Itís been like that for quite a while now - I have mentioned it at least a couple of times over several years.

Tim.

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

Hmmm, forum permissions are messed up. No worries, won't be a problem in new software as we probably won't keep that feature anyhow. We won't invest time tracking that down now though.

Ron — Great news!

Along with automatic picture resizing (that is a HUGE benefit) It Would be nice to have a LIKE feature for posts.

A “test” forum would be nice as well. IE you make a change in your control panel for your signature and want to test it out. There would be other reasons as well...

The ability to add more than one picture per post from I Pad or I Phone

Controversial but I would like no politics. It seems to turn into a fight most weeks.

I think on the politics front the paddock is going to be hidden, secret, and you'll need to ask an admin for the URL and password. If you ask for the URL and password, and still complain, then you get ejected. Sound fair?

...and now for a different viewpoint...for those of us who enjoy the political and gun threads, it's become our version of the "coffee club", so to speak...an opportunity to discuss with others (which I can understand may seem to those who do not enjoy the topic like a "fight") certain "hot topics", but for the most part I think the Politics thread has calmed down a whole bunch. Either way, whether it has or whether it hasn't, nobody is required to bring up those threads, so if they don't interest others, there's no need to look at the threads...

As for ideas for forum usage...there are quite a few of the "boards" that I seldom read...would it be possible to develop a way that we could each develop (choose from among the various boards) our own personalized "index" of topics that each of us could determine depending on our interests? That way if we're not interested in hearing about the volcano in Hawaii (or climate change, or the Religion thread in the Paddock) we can personalize our own "forum" so that there is a better chance that we'll be likely to sign in and find a preponderance of topics in which we are likely to participate.

Yeah....I know....sounds complicated, but who knows what is possible these days with technology advancing so quickly.

...just a thought....

Cheers!

Doug

Please, please, please lower the amount of time that you have to wait to view another page from 15 seconds (to 7-8???). I understand the need for it. But 15 seconds is like an eternity when you're waiting to click another link..

We sort of already had that.....you had the option in your CP to either turn on or off the Paddock. And, it still led to complaining.

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

So we need a dedicated forum for "Lonesome Bob" who exists here only to spew "climate change" stuff and thinks a "GT40" is a "Gran Torino 1940".......

Perfect solution!

I would also add my vote for picture resizing if it's possible.

Re: GT40s Forum Upgrade

The software we'll be moving to is XenForo. Here are a few forums that also run this software:

The High Road

American Civil War Forums

Alien Soup

Computer Forum

There are 10s of 1000s of them but that give you some idea.

Yeah...the Paddock is not the content I would turn off.

I seldom read the following forums:

Introduce yourself
GT Tech (Exterior and Interior)
GT Registration
Video and Pictures Buffet
All of the "Marketplace" forums
The Race Track forum
Lola T70 Lounge
Wings, Wheels and Keels

What I was asking about was whether or not we could "include" or "exclude" certain forums (such as those I listed above, which I seldom read) and in essence create our own "forum" from the options Ron has already provided.
