Has anyone weighed their car?

Find it hard to believe that no one has weighed their car.

Al our RCR mk-2 comes in at 2400 lbs. I thought it was heavy, but we then looked at the full roll cage non chrome molly. Bigger brakes and wheels we run 335/35/17 on the back and they are custom american racing shelby wheels [they are heavier then some of my other race wheels]on board extinguisher, 427 small block with a z/f and the list goes on. I dont think it would be difficult to put on a diet we would just have to throw more money at it........m

I asked this same question around April last year in my thread. I'm in Australia, we must have our SLC weighed in order to get it registered. Mine weighed in at 1,260kg or circa 2,777lbs. That seemed a little on the heavy side, that's why i posed the question. I didn't get anyone specifically stating their cars weight. I'm interested to hear other weights too.

Holy Gravity Pull Batman, there must be some sort of gravity machine there. What did you do to get the car that heavy? Is that with a full roll cage, side impact bars, full leather, tank full of gas, lot of sound damping and heavy wheels and tires, maybe then it would get close to that.

Maybe its like a woman's weight....you never ask, or you never contest whatever answer is given

I expect mine to be a little on the porky side, huge rear tires, supercharger, two radiators, two intercoolers, six fans, wider body.... If I make 2,750 I'll be way lucky. But she'll be shapely and sexy as hell regardless, haha :love:

You ask why mine is so heavy but don’t provide a comparative weight of your own SLC?
Do you know the weight of your own SLC? or, do you just think mine is heavy compared to the target weights RCR quotes?

I didn’t build my SLC so I don’t know exactly what extra may have been done. It does have full leather interior (seats, bulkhead, doors, roof lining and centre console are all trimmed in leather + carpeted floors and sound deadening). It has rather thick ‘high tensile intrusion bars’ built into the doors for side impact protection. It had a full tank of gas at time. running the Forgestar wheels 18 x 8.5" & 19 x 12" with 265/35/18 & 345/30/19.

At this stage I still have not seen anyone post the weight of their finished SLC from a verified weighbridge or other formal weighing system. I'm really interested to see how much heavier mine actually is.

EDIT: I see in post #24 of this thread (http://www.gt40s.com/forum/rcr-foru...d-superlite-thats-actually-super-light-2.html) the Team QRP race car is over 2,700lbs! that's damn close to my 2,777lbs and mine is a road car.

So, is anyone really weighing in nearer to 2,400lbs with a road car?

This is a hot topic at the 2015 Detroit auto show as well. Many car manufacturers are claiming weight reductions in their new models like:

Ford F150
Audi Q7
Mustang GT350
Mercedes C class
Camaro ZR1
Corvette Z06

Ok, here are my corner weights. This was performed on a different day to my weighbridge certificate.

Front Left: 245kg / 19.3%
Front Right: 246kg / 19.3%

Rear Left: 395kg / 31%
Rear Right: 388kg / 30.4%

This was performed for engineering certification/registration purposes.

I would appreciate any comments on my corner weights in general?
Are they suitable for an SLC or should they be altered? If so, to what?

I will say one thing. I was debating on whether or not to do leather and a fair bit of sound dampening on the car, but after seeing how much the "little things" add up. I think I'll keep it a bit more simple.

I will definitely be weighing mine in the next few months (once it's drivable).

Though for sound (and maybe a "tiny" bit of stiffness), I was thinking about filling the hallow parts of the chassis with structural foam (might at 10lbs total), but it will make at least those parts of the chasses make a thud sound instead of a ting when hit, and hense should resonate sound a bit less.

When the weather breaks I will take mine, it should be the lightest since I am using a Mazda 20 B rotary engine. My complete motor when I had it out minus the tranny was 276 lbs on a bathroom scale with oil in it and turbo.

I must say that I'm a bit surprised at the ...ugh, "heft" of the SLC. I understand that you have at least a rollbar, if not a cage in some of the cars, but my GT40 only weighs 2475 wet, with an iron block.

I know, apples and oranges..but still.

And I've got some 60's era Porsches that weigh quite a bit less than the GT40.
