Re: SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

I should have added that the list is not definitive, it just happens to be the cars that were tested at the time. I too suspect that the Cobra would be well placed, as would a lot of other cars...

Re: SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

I have always heard that the 427 Cobra was at 12 seconds. This leaves seven cars better from that list. Three are superlight Atoms and the rest are modern supercars. That says a lot for a 1960's big block semi-production car.

More:

Road & Track, September 2006, 0-100-0, sec.'s

Corvette Z06 13.1
Viper SRT10 13.5
Ford GT 12.4

Except for the Ford, the cars are way under $100K. That's (on the surface of it) amazing performance with just a 4.7 L., as all the cars above have 5.4 (forced induction), 7.0 and 8.3 L. engines.

A 4.7 L. SPF car weighing down in the neighborhood of 2,300-2,400 lbs or less could do it, assuming the gearing was right. (Punch out the power/weight ratios.)

Re: SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

The Ultima GTR does 0-100 back to 0 in 9.4 sec and the car that set that record in NOT one of the faster one that are built.

Re: SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

Remembering back when I got my Cobra in 1972, I borrowed some informational Cobra archieve materiial (magazines, books, ect) from Steve Monaco. One of the books listed a 427 Cobra with Goodyear Slicks that went 1-100-0 in 13.8 seconds. If anyone sees faster times than that, it was done much later than 1965-67 with newer rubber and newer speed equipment.

I wish I would have kept a copy of the article. I am sure this post will start a fling of comments. Let 'em rip.

Re: SPF tested at Bruntinthorpe

That's a lightly engined car at 4.7L. I suspect the more common Roush 427 would generate a sub 12 second 0-100. It should at least.......
