Replacement of SPF Rear View Mirror

I'm preparing to replace the SPF original rear view mirror with an authentic Lucas 608 model I picked up in the UK. Has anyone had experience in removing the factory mirror from the windshield? I've had a couple of people tell me that there is the possibility of cracking the windshield when you remove an adhesive-attached mirror, as on the SPF. Is there a trick to safely removing the old one? Or do you simply yank the sucker off? Inquiring minds want to know ...

Kim,

I used a NEW razor blade and carefully went under the edge as I pulled on the mirror.

Came off easy .
