Oil Temp Sensor

Just took 50th anniversary Lemans win drive. Even after having this beast for a while, can't get over the feeling this 427FE monster produces, and the straight pipes turn it into an 'e-ticket ride'!

To business...OEM oil temp sensor wire that runs through the wrapped wire strand appears to worked it's way loose from actual sensor (that is on top of oil filter). Is the best way to fix to solder the wire back into the sensor?

Thanx
Mark

Turns out wire in center of wrapped wire is not disconnected from sensor.

Anyone no why/how mechanical oil temp sensor can fail?

Am attending British GP this weekend. Can pickup Smiths oil temp Sensor/capillary at shop outside Silverstone. The sensor comes with either 78" or 120" capillary length. They have 78" in stock.

Does anyone know if 78" capillary will work with oil temp sensor installed in oil filter housing in engine bay above oil cooler behind top part drivers seat? Having just replaced throttle cable with 108" Lokar, i'm thinking 78" may not be enough. However, i did cut some of the Lokar cable off and that cable did have to travel farther than oil temp sensor capillary.

Or, could would someone be willing to measure rough distance from location above oil cooler behind drivers seat to the tunnel entrance, through tunnel, and up to gauge?

Thanx ahead of time
