Chassis 1010 Roof

Can anyone identify what this is on the roof? I thought it might be a vent for cockpit airflow but not sure.

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Its a roof vent which was a feature of both 1010 and 1026 throughout their racing carreers.

Also an aluminium cover was put over the rear deck from Sebring 1966 (26th March) and 1026 had a small aluminium extension over the rear wheel arches.

By Nurburgring 1966 (4th june) the rear bodywork had been replaced on both cars with wider ones but still incorporated the cover over the deck grille which had been painted with the body stripe.

Hmmmm.... might be a case of to much information there.....

Cool Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Chris,

I have something similar mounted on my roof - it's a rear view camera. I felt quite unsafe at not being able to see out my back window. So I bought a used third break light and mounted a camera in it - works pretty well.

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Thanks guys - no such thing as too much info! As you know I'm trying hard to replicate #1010 and wanted to incorporate the vent, don't know how much added airflow it provides but I would image if it was useless, they wouldn't have done it? (ANY extra airflow would be great...)

If anyone has info or pics of this vent let me know, I would appreiciate it!

Cheers

Chris

PS: Thanks to Chris Melia for the color reference pic-

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Quick mockup with card stock, might make it a little more shallow in height. There are a lot of obstructions such as the frame and bulkhead beneath so the actual air vent opening will start approx 2.5 inches foward from the back of the clip. Adjustments and some more mockups to be done before I commit to cutting into the roof.

Got em! Thanks Andy, I will look them over and see how close I am.

Ever seen a 'Victoria's Secret' catalog?

Unhappy Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Yup - a single it is! It's actually not too bad if you get everything off the floor and don't need to crawl in and out of the doors too often. The bonus is it heats up quickly in the winter after I insulated it. Nice to work outside when the weather is better although that has it's distractions too.

Dr. Watson - the roof will be almost complete this weekend, the pics helped so my many thanks to you! My time management (if there is such a thing) hasn't rewarded me with much one-on-one with the car the last couple of months. But when it does - I'll be out there making more progress.

...and yes I'll post photo's!

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Just come across this thread. Any chance you can forward those pics on to me, Chris?

Anyone else know of any "peculiarities" with 1026?

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Hi Richard - I'll dig through my pics that Andy sent me as well as some I received from MDA Craig B. They'll give you a decent idea of size etc, although I never did find any close-up pics.

Re: Chassis 1010 Roof

Ta Chris - I have seen a couple of 40s with Louvre vents in that position, but nothing like that.

Are you going to the Classic next year?
