Rep Power: 5 | Le Mans pace car looking for a home.... In June 2006, 40 years after its first win at Le Mans, the GT40 will once again be heading the pack.
Singled out as the car to set the pace at Le Mans, the new generation CAV GT will be driven by racing legends Sir Stirling Moss and Tony Dron.
In true super car style, the CAV GT will lead the world’s greatest historic racing cars in the run up events to the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race.
Imagine having bragging rights to all of the above. And every day waking up to the sight of the low slung muscular machine. Imagine the thrill of pushing the starter button and listening to the 500 HP V8 roar to life as you ignite your senses in the 9,5 seconds that it takes to get from 0 to 100 miles per hour.
Full spec sheet available on www.cav.co.za
Now make it happen.

Rep Power: 9 | Re: Le Mans pace car looking for a home.... This is simply stunning and congratulations on the selection to pace LeMans. The pace car certainly will be a historic vehicle.
One question, because this is will be a complete car, can it be imported as a road car or must it be a race vehicle? |

Rep Power: 11 | Re: Le Mans pace car looking for a home.... Congratulations on being selected to provide the pace car for Le Mans that sounds like a great honor, but I have to wonder why they didn't choose an original GT40? Surely they could have found an owner that would have been willing to let Sir Stirling Moss drive their car. |

I'm not sure Ben, but like everything at Le Mans, it is for sale - I think you pay for the privilege to put your car there.
RF tried the same thing some years ago and it cost a bunch of cash to get the job done, including a lot of time/money for some friendly GT40 enthusiasts in the UK/France, without which it would not have happened. That black MKII they used for that is the one that has been hid, bought, returned, squandered, sold, bought back, etc. in the RF Asset hunt and no straight story about it has emerged yet. |

Rep Power: 8 | Le mans Pace car It's a shame they could not get a MKII for this years Le mans pace car as this would equate with the anniversary date logically being 1966 when the Gulf cars were two years away from being constructed. What that means is they will ask you back in two years time. Anyway have a great time.

My MK-IV is available for next year but not if I have to pay... |

Rep Power: 4 | In reply to bringing the actual Lemans completed gulf pace car into the USA: While it possibly could be brought in as a race car only, or less engine and transmission, { please contact Jean or myself 619 708 3180.or roy@vipclassics.com for full info} Autofutura are building 10 new CAV Lemans pace cars similar spec chassis that will be numbered and have all sorts of special add on extras to celebrate being chosen as the official historic Lemans Pace car for 2006. They can also be to your own favorite color spec. I am sure these chassis will soon be in demand unless you have a spare $2, to $5,000,000. for one of the original Lemans cars. These fabulous turnkey minus or rollers or chassis/component, whichever you wish to call them, are available from myself at www.vipclassics.com You, the customer, actually decide how much H.P. and what gearing to have fitted separately, that way it can then be registered in the normal method according to the buyers U.S. state rules and regulations for normal road and or track use. P.S. Just for info I am sending Ron payment for our new banner advertising and support for this forum which we greatly appreciate and enjoy. Cheers. Roy Sayles.

Rep Power: 3 | LeMans How can i see this car?
I will be in the Loire - near Le Mans at the time of the race this summer. Would really like to see the car. I was there in March 1969 and saw a real GT40 w/ J. Icyx (sp.?) behind the wheel in the paddock.

Rep Power: 5 | More Le Mans pictures.... Hi All
As promised, some more information re the Le Mans car. We got the car up and running last week, but with the noise from the exhausts being excessive, we decided to fit a silencer. (I think that the neighbours weren’t as impressed as we were with the raw animal grunt of the car prior to her new silencer face-lift.) Still sounded beautiful…!
Day before yesterday we took the car, as well as another two CAV’s through to the track. We left the workshop first thing in the morning (attached photo) and headed for the local race track, Killarney, about 50 km’s away. Once at the track, time was spent setting up the suspension, corner weights, ride heights, etc. As you all know, setting up a race car is vastly different to that of a standard road car.
At 10 o’clock or so, all was ready and we could get down to testing. It took a few laps to get the brakes bedded and up to temperature. Unfortunately for me, the car was needed in a photo shoot for a program to be aired on DSTV. With that out the way, it was back to the fun stuff…!
The car did exceptionally well. Cornering is brilliant; she sits like shit in a blanket. Even though we were running with large 15” rear tyres which flex a lot, I was amazed how much she was able to hold without letting the tail break loose. We are running a stiffer front anti-roll bar which gives a fair amount of under steer, and this helped a lot to keep the baby on the road.
The braking is brilliant, and once the fore-aft had been adjusted, she was doing all as expected. She is running with six pots at the front and four pots at the rear.
The engine (virgin) had very little run-in and survived her day at the track. I didn’t go all the way to 6500 RPM, but the power was fantastic and the torque unbelievable. My thanks to Brian and Peter from Raceparts Distribution, for their help, advice and speedy delivery of this engine. The new ZF cable shift had been fitted to this car, and I am happy to report that it works very nicely - the gears are easy to find and the shift is direct.
With the afternoon sun, the mountain in the background and another fantastic Cape Town day drawing to a close, the photographers took over…taking hundreds of photos for the local and international press. It’s at times like these that one, realizes the beauty of the car as well our privilege to be part of the team that builds these recreations of the legendary GT 40! |

Rep Power: 5 | Le Mans car sold! Hi guys!
This serves to confirm that the Le Mans car #100, Limited Edition has been sold to Mr Stephen Pattrick. The car would however still complete its run at Le Mans with Sterling Moss as well as being exhibited at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Thereafter it will be handed over to Stephen, who will be possible entering the car in the cannonball 8000.
Congratulations to Stephen, John and I will really miss our ‘baby’…she is quiet a beauty!
We have started the production on another two of the Limited Edition cars, and we will soon be posting pictures of these.
Chat again soon.

Rep Power: 19 | That has to be some of the best GT40 shots of all times. Be sure to save these as they are destined to be classics later on. The "action" action shot is similar to one of my all time favorites of a similar finished 40 going into a right hander, up a slight incline, under power, with a hint of body roll. Congratulations on a project I am sure you are proud of.
