Incredible! I think I just drooled all over my keyboard. I sure wish I had your metal fab skills. You're truly an artisan

Is that the 993 or 996 model GT1??
Am I right when I say it looks like the stock 993/996 nosepiece is attached to the monocoque?

Yes richie you are just about right standard 'ish' front end.the first gt1 was built this way porsche did things the porsche way. as you probably know it was built at a time of rule changes to get the drivers feet behind the front axle. the gt1 mk11 had a carbon monocoque. porsche had a very short time to design and build the first cars before the next season, in effect they took the rear end of last years car and the front off the road car and joined them together with the steel centre section.
Yes you can build a road car like that just as porsche did for homolagation, the road cars just sat a bit higher

Yes Paolo
The first two photos you posted is the gt1 the third is an evo car and the fourth is the evo three and the last of the series.
also at the time of those cars the mercedes cars flipped too due to the very flat bottom, ventura were not developed to the full extent as they are today.
one day I will build myself one as i still have all the dimensions and access to body moulds for the carbon I just don't want to sell my GT40 to finance it so on the back burner at the moment

What kind of budget would you think is needed for a self build of the 993 based GT1.
I think the one off or limited production bodywork must also cost an arm and a leg.
GT1 (also the 962) has allways been a dreamcar for me.

Richie
If you have a doner car you can keep costs down, the bodywork is not that bad i have access to GT1 bodys 962 and 956 molds.
very hard to self build as you need all the dimensions one of the most problematic parts is the cowhorn which you can see between the gearbox and engine you need to fabricate this to achieve the desired wheelbase and to hold the whole thing together

Fantastic job !!!!
what a great shop....it's like a "caverne d'ali baba" as we say in France....

Nick you got an MP (or email) ;)

working on the group c cars was great but I needed to work for myself and not for someone else, although i took what i learnt and kept my contacts

a couple more shots of what I was upto
