Wanted - odd ball wheels

We are a pretty diverse range of people here, so can anyone help ?. I need a pair of very narrow ali wheels ( something like the attached pictures ) as slave wheels to get our single seater into the trailer. Need around 650 mm overall diameter for rear of this car, and I can make a new centre hub to fit 3/4 inch spindle. Got to carry around 150 Kg each. Any ideas ? Thanks, Frank

First thing that came to mind were wheels like what you've shown there Frank and I've seen them advertised for just such a purpose in the SCCA's "SportsCar" magazine. Unfortunately I have tossed the lot of them and can't look it up for you.

Next thing up would be wheels like those that were on my old BMW K100RT motorcycle which are bolt-on and a hub adapter could be fabricated..

Frank, I see these in paddocks all the time for just the reason you state. I'll look around and see if I can find where people purchase them. I'm also moving this thread to the Wings/Things area where it'll get more visibility.

Ron

Found some:

Rsport For Sale

They even have a do it your self version that you can machine your own hub.

Thanks guys, firstly I did make a set of timber wheels, only to find that when we got to the circuit after about 60 miles with car in my trailer, driving over English roads full of pot holes, that one rear suspension had collapsed due to the lack of any cushioning of tyres that put all off the shock load into the car. The BMW wheel looks interesting, but the ones Ron has shown, while perfect for this use, are marginally too small diameter for my use, I need about 25 inches dia if possible. I will call the US company to discuss. If any more ideas please let me know, Frank

Hey Frank, I do have odd balls - not sure if they have wheels. I'll check and get back to you...

Hello there is in Italy a company named Marvic and from what I remeber they did some batch of narrow wheel for historic prototypes or LMP to be rolled into heavy carriers

Maybe the idea is stupid (if yes, sorry ), but why don't you try to find some wrecked moped, to reuse its ally wheels.
At least in France, it's possible to find hundreds of these things for a fistfull of beans...(but you'll have to adapt the hubs...)

Ho noooooo
Unfortunatly these light motorcycle cannot work on that application ; we tested these on an previous LMP doing an aluminium hubb and they do not handle more than 90 kg awheel max 100 kg !!!

Me again,

look at these:

Good for 200 mph!

Try this guy:

17" wheels with polished aluminium hubs, polished stainless steel spokes and brand new chrome rims. to fit pop spindles. all you need are the bearings/tyres and your rolling.

these have been prepared by me and put together by a professional builder with 30+ years experience.

any questions or more detail pics needed just ask.

£???. a pair..... may PX rough/damaged wheels.

Sid. 07968110391. reasonable hours please.

wheels are as these but without tyres.

this pair are sold but I have others.

Frank, obviously you would have to knock up a hub adaptor. Nothing for a man of your unlimited talents mate.

Hope this helps. Sorry about the balls bit. Of course, I haven't even got any.

I am pretty certain the fronts that I am using are Peugeot moped wheels, with my made hubs to suit, but I cannot find any suitable for rears. The whole car only weighs 300 kilos, so I am looking for rear wheels that will carry a bit over 100 kilos, and about 650 overall diameter. Thanks for all the input, Frank

Hi Frank,

Go to Apexspeed.com and do a "search" for transport wheels. There is usually someone with a set for sale.

I got some for my Atlantic there for a pretty good price used.

Late model Porsche 911 & others have an alloy space saver, early models have a steel version that 'looks' very similar to the P906 rims, think the alloy ones are 16" dia, steel 15" with inflated dia around 26" IIRC, I picked six up for Kiwi$100.00 from a porsche specialist/wrecker.

Yep that's my suggestion as well a space saver spare of any late model jap car, I have to do the same to get the F5000 on the trailer

cheers John

Thanks Guys, quickly sorted with your help, Porsche Boxter wheels, well done. Frank
