Guys, thinking about purchasing this one. Like to gather your thoughts.

Looks like a good basic open wheel chassis with enough "stuff" already on it/included that I can mostly focus on the engine as the big To Do for the car. Obviously, the suspension and brakes will need to be gone through to ensure there's no leaks or cracks or other unsafe issues. With that said, here's what I'm thinking.

1. finish up my flat crank V8 project, and use this engine (stroked SBF), initially with an iron block just to get the thing up and running,
2. spend some time shaking it down - I'll have to see what clubs will let me run an open wheel car on their track days. Probably not the porsche club or ferrari club (no open wheel with closed wheel), but maybe the alfa club or the mustang club or the honda club..... See what breaks, hopefully not suspension.
3. eventually paint the thing in original colors and check the originality and rules to see if I can get it accepted into vintage racing.
4. swap out the iron block for aluminum provided that's within rules.

Am I crazy? The way I'm look at it is this is cheap F5000 type racing and messing around. I really like the F5000 cars but original cars are expensive to acquire and pretty long in the tooth at this point.

What do you think?

I think if you want to do some cheap messing around with an open wheel car you should go Formula Mazda.

The cars are reliable, you have a place to run races or track days (SCCA and NASA), and they are relatively cheap in the grand scheme of open wheel cars, and fast as hell.

And, best of all, you can rent one and test the waters without ownership.

I love it......would be an awesome project....why not fit an LS motor?
Wish it was in Oz or i would be thinking about it myself.
