I like BBC!

Here in the U.S. many of the major networks have aligned themselves with a political party/idealogy. Fox seems to be pro-Trump, NBC and its affilliates seems to be the self-appointed opposition to the Trump administration.

In my opinion CBS does more “balanced” coverage...and less biased. That may just be an artifact of my viewing habits, though...most of the network TV shows I follow are on NBC. You can blame that on the limited TV reception here in remote middle-America. Up until the time I signed up for cable TV service the ONLY channel we could get on an “over the air” TV antenna was NBC...oh, yeah, and PBS.

We really do seem to be becoming a polarized country and it is inevitable that some of that bias will be reported on our network news programs.

Cheers!!

Doug

You are joking Doug aren’t you?

BBC is now totally left wing and anti Conservative, anti Brexit, anti Trump anti.......

Not unbiased any more i’m afraid. Used to be good but not any more!

Have you tried
World News - Al Jazeera English

When they had a political clear out in the BBC a number of years back the people made redundant were offered positions there and tend to still be more unbiased than most for world news.

That is SO TRUE, Larry!

I think the reason I like BBC is that they do not”insert” their own political bias as much as our American media does. That stands to reason...they’re not Americans and they don’t have a horse in this race, so it’s easier to believe what they say than, say, perhaps CNN or Fox News(?) Network.

I’m always skeptical when due to geological or population influences the “news” becomes “skewed” one way or another...but it’s unavoidable, I understand that. I mean, after all...we’re all humans and therefore we are fallible.

Thanks, Ian...I appreciate the tip and I’ll check Aljazeera out...but every time I’ve heard anything about Aljazeera it has seemed to be an extremist group. Do I have them confused with some other group?

Still...I’ll check ‘em out!

Cheers!

No different than watching CNN Rod... None. Both networks are just garbage anymore.

I disagree. Fox News is almost 100% garbage. And since Drumpf religiously watches Fox, Fox can and does drive what Drumpf does in terms of policies and tweets. His tweets tend to follow a Fox and Friends news stories.

And now we hear that there’s some love child fathered by Trump out of wedlock and he paid $30,000 to a doorman to keep quiet. Sounds familiar. The news just gets worse for Drumpf.

PBS / NPR / BBC and a mix of ABC, CBS, NBC and others to get various perspectives.
If you LISTEN (don’t watch) CNN for an afternoon, you get to hear numerous people, all trying to talk or holler over the other, while they are in the process of dissecting a comment, snippet or visual for hidden or true meanings etc.
Then at the top of the hour, they switch hosts and guests to argue the very same “nugget” that was already rehashed on previous shows.
I tell you as sure as I’m sitting here, that you will come away with a changed opinion of the once mighty news organization.
It is important to NOT watch while you’re trying this as your visual inputs will not cloud your opinion. You will also get the same perspective as a visually challenged person would have.
And to answer a question that you may have lingering in your own mind - yes - I’ve done the same thing with the others I highlighted above.

Fox News -
Frankly - I used to listen to them and compare to the others as well as CNN. I found them to be such Polar opposites to CNN that I came to the conclusion that they would surely take an exact opposite position on quite literally any subject that was political in nature.

I am spending an increasing amount of time in corroborating information before I file it away as credible. I wish more people would do that.

You've just summarized the S.O.P of Schumer, Pelosi, and the rest of the Democrats regarding any position/decision/policy Trump announces. It's automatic - and virtually INSTANTANEOUS. That's inarguably been the case since day one.

Yes, they disagree on most positions, that’s why the party that’s not in power is called the opposition party. But we do seem to get agreement on spending resolutions to keep the government running. And they almost came to an agreement on immigration/border security until it was scuttled.

Hopefully, come November 2018, Republicans will be the opposition party.

It's gone waaaaay beyond "opposition", Rod. Even you must know that.

Just one of the 'smaller' illustrations: the Gorsuch confirmation. There's NO QUESTION he was/is beyond "qualified"...'faaar more "qualified", in fact, than Kagan and Sotomayor put together. And yet, whereas the GOPs voted to CONFIRM both of the aforementioned, the Democrats STONEWALLED the Gorsuch confirmation to the point were the GOPs had to pull a page from the DEMOCRAT playbook and 'go nuclear' to get him confirmed. 'ONLY reason the Democrats opposed him? He's a conservative.

TO THIS DAY the Democrats continue to drag their feet and use every STALL tactic they can come up with to delay, delay, delay the confirmation of anyone Trump has nominated for ANY position. I cannot recall personally witnessing or reading about any time in history wherein so few confirmations have been/were made to this point in any previous administration.

Larry, Larry, Larry...that's what the opposition party DOES! When the Dems were the party with the power the Repubs did the same thing...have you forgotten about Boehner and his partners in crime as they stalled everything B.O. proposed...or was it OK for the Repubs to drag their feet just because they are the party's idealogy to which you subscribe?

It's how our political system is designed, Larry. The pendulum that is the party in power swings back and forth depending on the whim of the voting public.

About Trump's confirmations...they're probably being held up for good reason. Trump has a WAAAAY goofy way of picking his nominees...he picks the ones that he thinks will be "loyal" to HIM rather than the one he thinks will do the best job.

I say thank goodness there IS an opposition party to reign in this runaway egocentrist we call our POTUS!

You are literally the most one sided, partisan spewer of Foxisms I have ever encountered.

The Biden rule was never a rule, and was never meant to leave a seat open for 18 months. Hell, the day Trump was elected there was an election on the horizon in four years and maybe we should have waited! Biden rule!

Garland was qualified and not acted upon. Why? Stonewalling by Republicans. Which is exactly what Doug said.

You are the type of guy the Trumpster was talking about when he said he could shoot someone on 5th Ave and you'd still support him.

Obfuscate all you want, Jeff...you know E-X-A-C-T-L-Y what I was getting at. Biden and Schumer BOTH backed what became known as the SO-CALLED "Biden Rule"...namely, that SCOTUS Justices ought not be nominated nor confirmed in the 'eleventh hour' of a lame duck president's term...'that it should be left for the INCOMING president.

Yes, next almost entirely inaccurate post.

*There was never a "rule" -- Biden mentioned it in a speech about appointing a justice in the summer a few months before an election, not a year of an empty seat.
*Republicans never followed the rule.
*Having an empty seat for 11 months was unprecedented.

You are the biggest partisan hack I have EVER encountered. Ever. And that is saying a lot.
