Having seen Phil West's Corvair in person, I would caution that the entire length of the powertrain is very long. Even in the Corvair, there is hardly any room between the steering wheel and the front seat. OK for a racecar, not so good for a street machine...

Any easy ways to determine if an Audi 6 speed is an 01E or not?

I would use a drill press or better yet a bridgeport and use an Carbide 1/8" Ball nose end mill. Spin it as fast as it will go and use lots of oil. I do this at work all the time.

This is a great site you guys have here, great information and a great group of people. Question for today is are all Audi 6 speeds 01E's? I have been on ebay.de and have managed to find several Audi 6 speeds that are 2WD but I want to make sure they are 01E and not something else...hopefully...
