    Brooklands Motorsports Weekend (15/16 Feb)

Dave, At least you've got a roof and a windscreen...I'll be taking my Porsche Spyder rep. so it's going to be really cold! Looks like I'll just make the "under 40" enclosure - but only by a few weeks! Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday. I was hoping to make both days but SWMBO has...

    Proporties of fiberglass

Chris, Not sure about this one, but whilst checking over various Elsie's recently at a local dealers I found that many of the engine covers had heat bumps and ripples on them. John S.

    Best non-reflective dash covering/paint

Cheers Brian, I may do that soon. I actually used them for obtaining vinyl and carpet for my Spyder kit and they're a very good company to do business with...local to me too! BTW, if anyone's into boats they also do a good range of waterproof upholstery materials as well. John S.

    Best non-reflective dash covering/paint

I'd recommend Alcantara for the dash, but bear in mind that although it's a great washable material is tends to bobble after a while if used on seats (check out any ageing Thema/Integrale) This problem seems to be exaggerated by demin/canvas clothing (I know because I've got two very pricey...

things you would rather do or not do...

Hmmm...replacing the points on a old 2CV, rear brake pipes on a 2 CV, front brake shoes on a...infact, anything on an old 2CV! IIRC the points were situated behind the fan that requires a special tool to get the starter dog off. To get to the starter dog the front of the car has to be removed...

GT-40 is hot and all but..................

If this was me I'd "borrow" a real F1 for the weekend and hire in a hand held 3D scanner. It's just like a barcode reader and you'd get full mm accurate plans in an hour without the hassle of covering the loan car in release wax! Poetic justice to me as Ron used a couple of Lee Nobles original...

    Q Plates?

Dave, I was thinking about the idea of buying a Q-plated GT40 and an old pooper of a Granada (adding a Ford 302) and then re-registering the GT40 using the donor parts from the pooped car...IN THEORY of course! John S.

    Opening side windows?

Nice looking car MK-IV BTW, I'm trying to convert the 1/12th Tamiya kit to the Sid Taylor/Denny Hulme car at the moment. Had huge problems trying to find mechanical reference pics for the model but at least after 2 years I've now found the original car...email me off the board if you want some...

    Questions on fibreglass techniques

Bill, Good points...boy, I wished I'd found this forum a few years back! I spent a lot of time faffing with the stuff on various test laminations of GRP until I was happy that the evil formula would work and stay in one piece when I flexed it. Most of the people around here that have any...

    Q Plates?

One for the Brits really. Is it possible to re-register a car that has already got Q plates? I was told years ago that once on they cannot be changed, but surely there is a way around this problem? Cheers, John S.

    Opening side windows?

Hi Folks, Newbe question from me. Has anyone developed (or perfected) an opening side window yet? I'm toying with an idea that would allow the whole window to hinge a few inches on the leading edge. The problem as far as I see it is keeping the original looks, maybe by keeping shortened fake...

    Newbie Questions

Hi Jules, A newbe here too that's just finshed a GP Spyder...again not an easy build! www.pbase.com/cinqster/gp_spyder&page=2 I'll no doubt be joining you with newbe questions, as I'm not sure if to start another build so soon, or go for an older roadworthy car? My tip for a real budget...

    Questions on fibreglass techniques

Some really good tips here everyone. From the experience that I've gleaned over the last couple of years I'd like to add a couple of tips to Bill's technique for extending GRP edges. After bevelling the edges I carefully go along the edge with a knife/scalpel and dig holes into the now...
