    Le Mans Classic 2008 11-12-13th July 2008

Roy, I'm really behind on paperwork I'm afraid but will get to it v soon. However this is to let you know I will be coming to the Classic this year in my CAV. I missed it in 2006 by a whisker as couldn't quite manage to get the car on the road in time so v keen to get there this year! Not...

    CAV Washer Head Screw source

So far as I can tell, these are identical to the screws which came with my CAV: http://www.a2a4.co.uk/acatalog/POZI_FLANGE_SELF_TAPPING_SCREWS_A_2.html. they are a UK company but may well ship overseas if you can't find them anywhere else. Brian

    Door adjustment on a CAV...

Door adjustment The doors hinge off a vertical bracket which bolts through the chassis side panels just behind each end of the dashboard. The inner surface of the side panel is probably trimmed with carpet so you may need to remove this to access the nuts. Once you loosen the two bolts (just...

Another road legal CAV in the UK!

I got my CAV through the SVA test yesterday on the second attempt. Unlike some recent experiences reported on this forum the tester (at the Mitcham test centre) was extremely helpful - it was marginal on a couple of issues but he was happy for us to keep at it and get it through. Next step is...

    CAV worth the extra money??

Hi Jay - interested in your post. I have built one of these cars in the UK so if you have any questions feel free to PM me. In fact if there is anyone else out there in the UK who has built a CAV I'd like to hear from them! I settled on this car from the alternatives after seeing a built car at...

    Door mirrors

Paul, A perennial topic I fear - fitting electric mirrors to a GT40 - in my case a CAV. I have acquired a pair of BMW Mini mirrors and have figured out the wiring and plan to use them with the Ford Mondeo switch thingy. My question though concerns how you have mounted the mirrors to the car...

    PW Tornado Build pics

Paul, very interested in this central locking pic. Can I ask, are you using these door locks / catches in the picture below? If so, how do the central locking motors "drive " the catch - or do you have a separate deadlock pin through the door? On the SVA issues, have you thought about putting...

Central door locking and electrics mirrors

I'm assuming some of the CAV owners out there have fitted central locking. I can cope with the electrical side of things with the solenoids, remote, wiring etc, but what have you used for the actual lock? The mechanisms the CAV comes with I believe are latches rather than locks and there seems...

    Headlight Options

Paul, where did you put the hole - underneath the main bulb or to one side? Brian

    Headlight Options

Back on the subject of headlights! I have the Valeo units Lee describes and am about to drill the back of the light to fit a park / pilot light. I thought I would check on availability though in case of accidents! My local factor tells me Valeo say they are no longer available although I...

    Number Plate lights

Cheers Brian You know, I think this is the same light? It looks so similar to the ones I have - but as you know, they "look" bigger on the CAV than the GTD. I'm thinking the issue may be the depth of the rebate for the number plate. I'll remeasure tonight. I should be bolting the transmission...

    Number Plate lights

This, I think, is a question for GTD owners. I have a part completed CAV and the supplied number plate lights I'm sure are great for "squarish" rear plates but for a new style UK plate, where they fit is actually covered by the plate. I noticed on the GTD that they have similar shaped but I...

pilot / spigot bearing size - Audi 016 to Ford SB

A postscript to the above thread. The solution to this problem turned out to be very straightforward. My issue was having a pilot bearing which "expected" an 18mm input shaft whereas the input shafts on later 016 tranaxles are 15mm. McMaster-Carr sell a hardened steel collar made by Ina...

    Flywheel balancing

A postscript to this question for anyone in the UK wanting to get this done - Real Steel know how to do it. I tried Bassett Down Balancing who probably would have been fine except their head guy is out of action for several weeks. Brian Yeomans

pilot / spigot bearing size - Audi 016 to Ford SB

Wow Ron - is there anything they don't sell? Looking at the McMaster Carr site it looks like the solution is to fit an inner ring to the bearing - the existing bearing has an 18mm bore whereas I want to take it down to 15mm - and page 1023 has the exact part. Thanks again Ron. Brian Yeomans

pilot / spigot bearing size - Audi 016 to Ford SB

Has anyone encountered the following problem and if so what is the solution? I have one of the late 016 transaxles with the APN ratio set - these ratios are quite a bit taller than the 5N usually found so I'm keen to use it. My problem is that the gearbox input shaft is smaller (by about 2mm)...

    Flywheel balancing

It's too big (diameter) to fit, certainly with the adaptor plate and Audi 016 box I'm using. I understood using the V6 flywheel was the "usual" solution to the space problem. Brian Yeomans

    Flywheel balancing

Can anyone in the UK recommend a machine shop to "mirror balance" a flywheel? By this I mean to balance the smaller V6 flywheel I will need to fit to replace the flywheel my Ford small block comes with. The idea is that rather than rebalancing the whole assembly I should only need to get the...

    Oil Temperature sender take off

Can anyone help with a recommendation of the best place to locate the oil temperature electric sender on a 302 SBF? There is what I assume is access to the block oilways (I haven't unscrewed it!)on the opposite side of the block to where the oil pressure sender is located. I don't have an oil...

    CAV Fuel Cell Failure

Just spotted this post! Autofutura have had some alloy fuel tanks made which I now have on my CAV. They are very good quality, a snug fit in the sill, and pretty easy to fit. You may want to get in touch with John Spence to see if they can supply you alloy replacements. Brian Yeomans
